Complete Home Birth Midwifery Care

At A Woman’s Work, our midwife services are built around you. We provide holistic, clinical, and personalized care from early pregnancy through six weeks postpartum for healthy, low-risk families in Central Kentucky.

Our practice centers on informed consent, shared decision-making, and giving you the time and space you need to feel supported every step of the way. We believe that every family deserves a safe, empowering birth experience tailored specifically to their unique needs and preferences.

Comprehensive Prenatal Care

Prenatal visits are designed to build a relationship of trust while closely monitoring the health of both you and your baby.

  • Unhurried Appointments: 30-to-60-minute visits that leave plenty of time for clinical checks, questions, and personal connection.
  • Routine Clinical Monitoring: Vital signs, blood pressure checks, baby’s growth and positioning, and fetal heart rate monitoring.
  • Lab Work & Screenings: Access to standard prenatal lab panels, blood work, gestational diabetes screening, and Group B Strep (GBS) testing.
  • Schedule of Care:
    • Every 4 weeks until 28 weeks
    • Every 2 weeks from 28 to 36 weeks
    • Weekly visits from 36 weeks until delivery (including a home visit at 36-37 weeks to prepare your birth space)
  • Holistic Guidance: Nutrition, physical wellness, emotional health, and birth preparation customized to your needs.

Labor & Home Birth Attendance

When labor begins, you receive continuous, skilled clinical support in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

  • 24/7 On-Call Support: Dedicated on-call coverage starting at 37 weeks.
  • Continuous Labor Support: In-person clinical monitoring of maternal and fetal well-being throughout active labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.
  • Water Birth Option: Full support for laboring and/or birthing in water.
  • Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Equipped with clinical emergency supplies, including anti-hemorrhagic medications, neonatal resuscitation equipment, and medical oxygen.

Postpartum & Newborn Care

Care doesn’t end when the baby arrives. We provide attentive follow-up during those critical early weeks of recovery and bonding.

  • Immediate Postpartum: Thorough newborn physical exam, physiological monitoring of mom and baby, and hands-on help with initial feeding.
  • Postpartum & Newborn Visits: Detailed clinical checkups tailored to your recovery (typically 3–4 visits), including in-home visits at 24–48 hours and around Day 10, followed by a 6-week postpartum visit at the office.
  • Newborn Care & Screenings: Metabolic newborn screening, CCHD (cardiac) screening, jaundice monitoring, and infant weight checks.
  • Lactation & Recovery: Ongoing support for breastfeeding, pelvic healing, sleep, and emotional adjustment to parenthood.
